Healthcare Administration (HCA) Minor

Description

The Healthcare Administration (HCA) Minor is an 18-credit hour minor offered from the Healthcare Operations Management program within the School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences. The HCA minor will prepare students to examine quality and processes with resulting patient outcomes in healthcare. Within the Jesuit and Mercy values of the university, students will explore healthcare ethics, policies, and guidelines. Students will understand the role of the Healthcare Administrator through case studies and apply knowledge and skills to improve patient outcomes in group and team-based projects. This minor is designed to augment undergraduate healthcare majors like Health Sciences, Sports & Exercise Sciences, Nursing and for those who will be going to professional school like Medical School, Dental School, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy. This minor is also designed for non-healthcare majors like Business Administration, Cybersecurity and Biomedical Engineering students who will work in healthcare or closely with healthcare professionals.

  • Expected Learning Outcomes

    The Healthcare Administration minor provides an added Mercy Jesuit perspective from a healthcare lens to integrate intellectual, spiritual, ethical and social development of students foundational to the 黑料在线 mission. 

    Expected learning outcomes for the minor are: 

    1. Demonstrate knowledge of the current US healthcare industry to foster productive work environments across a variety of healthcare settings promoting innovative solutions for improving quality care and healthcare outcomes
    2. Apply ethical leadership and management skills in healthcare within the context of Jesuit and Mercy values to guide decision making in various types of healthcare organizations and professional relationships
    3. Apply knowledge of collaboration tools, communication strategies, and healthcare policies to address evolving healthcare environments, organizations, and workforce needs
    4. Demonstrate healthcare leadership skills to effectively understand the administrative role from a social justice perspective, ensuring a culture of quality, safety, professionalism, and equitable outcomes in healthcare delivery

    • HOM 3090 Healthcare Policy in Health Care Delivery (3 credits)
      or
      BIO 2530 Introduction to One Health (3 credits)
    • HOM 3050 Healthcare Financial Management (3 credits)
      or
      HOM 4650 Revenue Cycle Management (3 credits)
      or
      HOM 4610 Health Economics (3 credits)

    ETH 3580 Health Care Ethics is recommended for the F1 requirement within the student's major.
