Abhijit Dasgupta teaches classes in mathematics at all levels and the upper level computer science class on operating systems. He has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley, and joined Detroit Mercy in 2004.
Dasgupta's research interests are in Topology, Real Analysis, Measure Theory, Set Theory and studying definable sets (such as Borel sets) in separable complete metric spaces, an area known as Descriptive Set Theory (which uses techniques from Mathematical Logic and Theory of Computation). He has also done research in Nonstandard Analysis and the Philosophy of Algorithmic Randomness.
Before joining Detroit Mercy, Dasgupta taught at the University of Louisville and Jadavpur University, India. He had also worked in the industry as a network hardware and software engineer for many years at various companies including ANS, AOL, MCI/Worldcom and Cisco Systems.
